NBC teams up with the National Journal Group for 2008 election coverage

NBC News is combining efforts with The National Journal Group to provide in-depth coverage of the US 2008 presidential elections.  Chuck Todd, NBC News political director, announced on June 15 that the network wants to use this collaboration to provide a new approach to campaign coverage.

The “mobile campaign bureau” team will be comprised of new hires as well as veteran staff members from both NBC and the National Journal Group.  The print journalists, who will be trained in video, will cover the presidential race with text, audio, and video, supplementing traditional NBC News coverage.  NBC, MSNBC, MSNC.com, The National Journal, The Hotline, and CongressDaily will all feature the multimedia coverage.

Although the “mobile campaign bureau” will follow many of the candidates regularly, NBC hopes to distance its work from traditional television coverage of only the front-runners.
