Brazil: Metro launch in Sao Paulo

Metro International in partnership with Grupo Bandeirantes, a leading Brazilian TV broadcaster, will on May 7 launch a new edition of the Metro free daily newspaper in Sao Paulo.
Initial distribution will be 150,000 under the name Publimetro, the name already established by Metro’s Chile and Mexico editions.
Sao Paulo is the fifth largest city in the world with 18 million inhabitants. With papers in New York, Seoul, and Mexico City, Metro will now publish in four of the world’s five largest cities. Brazil is also Latin America’s largest newspaper advertising market.
"Franchise agreements have proven themselves to be a very efficient way for Metro International to penetrate new markets and increase Metro's unique global footprint,” said Pelle Törnberg, president and CEO of Metro International. “At the same time they ensure that the franchise editions remain true to the Metro model.”
