US: Iranian journalists refused visas

According to Iranian public television, 15 Iranian journalists were refused an entry visa to the United States. The journalists were meant to be part of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad entourage on the occasion of his visit to New York for the UN Assembly General.

Spokesman for Iran, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, said that it was not the first time the United States misused their function as hosts of the United Nations headquarters, and implied that other members of the president’s entourage were refused access in US soil.

Last week Iranian media reported that Internal Affairs Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi was not going to be present at the Assembly of the UN because he was not granted a visa. The same thing happened last year to the president of the Iranian Parliament Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel.

Only the official Iranian news agency Irna and the television Irib are allowed to have permanent correspondents in the United States, whereas American media cannot have stable employees in Iran.
