On September 21, The Independent is to issue a special RED edition, with Giorgio Armani as guest-designer. This will be the second partnership program between The Independent and RED, after the experience with U2 singer Bono as chief-editor on May 16.

The (PRODUCT) RED initiative was set up in conjunction with the UN-affiliated Global Fund to help those affected by HIV/Aids in Africa, and part of the revenues of The Independent special edition will be donated to the project.

The Armani-designed Independent will print articles of popular personalities, including George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The features section, Extra, will become a 36-page magazine for this occasion, and every copy will include a commemorative poster, personally designed by Giorgio Armani.

"Giorgio Armani will bring his own, highly distinctive view of the world, and his unique creative vision to the pages of the newspaper, and there promise to be some spectacular visual treats" said Simon Kelner, editor-in-chief of The Independent.

The May issue of The Independent, with Bono as chief editor, sold an additional 70.000 copies, and half of the revenues were donated to the RED campaign.
