Ukrainian newspaper published cartoons on the prophet Mohammed

Ukraine has become the 22nd on the list of countries who published the cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed. Several pictures appeared in the Kiev newspaper Segodnja (the Russian for “Today”) illustrating the article under the name “Cartoonists to begin World War III?” the Ukrainian Muslims called it provocation and claimed apologies on the side of the publisher.

The address was signed by 16 organizations in different regions of the republic. The Muslim advocates asked not to publish cartoons insulting their religious feelings:

“The editorial office may have just intended to inform its readers about the reasons for the global scale riots. We deem such a publication extremely abusing for the Muslims. We think that photos of riots were enough to highlight the issue.

The Muslims respect the other confessions as well as freedom of expression, however, they consider it important to observe the morale and to respect other civic values.

The publication concerned is but a provocation”.
