US study: People concentrate on newspapers more than other media

Media Channel reports on a study conducted by the US Ball State University, where the media use of 350 subjects, chosen to "roughly represent national demographics", was observed from morning until night.

68% of the time subjects spent reading the newspaper "was without competition from other activities."

Furthermore, the study revealed that when newspapers are read "in conjunction with other media, they usually are the 'primary medium' of the two, drawing the most attention." The most popular time to read the newspaper was between 8 and 9 AM, and this reading took place at home.

The day on which the newspaper was read for the longest was Sunday, with 56.5 minutes of reading time, as opposed to the next longest time of 34 minutes, on Wednesday.

Finally, "Newspaper exposure stayed steady during the week and dropped on Saturday."
