The Boston Globe is considering launching a new paid for sports section in early 2006 for its website Boston.com. If launched, the service would be called Sportsplus and "would be the essential resource for news, opinions and discussion about New England's sports teams, produced daily by the country's best sports writers."
Sportsplus would potentially include: sports feature stories, pre and post match analysis, daily columns from Boston Globe sports columnists, interviews that users could listen to online, blogs from players and managers, email alerts, comments and questions features, opportunities to attend live interviews with players and live players' panel discussions, access to Boston Globe photo and article archives.
This service would be proposed for free to those who already subscribe to the Boston Globe print edition, and to others for a monthly or annual fee. Access to the sports coverage outlined above would be no longer available to those not subscribed to either Sportsplus or the Globe print edition.
Sportsplus looks to be the Boston Globe's answer to the New York Times' Times Select.
