Canada: Toronto Star website becomes more reader friendly

The Toronto Star is making its website more reader friendly. Mandatory registration has been abolished in response to complaints from readers that registration was an inconvenience: "Our online readers have told us that registration is an inconvenience. We listened to our readers, and we've removed mandatory registration from our site."

Additionally, a new 'webmaking' blog has been created on the website and will serve as a forum where readers can comment on the paper's website, its design and news coverage.

These new initiatives are designed to make the Toronto Star more competitive and better serve its readers: "We believe that in order to be competitive in the online news and information space, growth of both audience and page impressions will be the cornerstone of our success. Further, we believe that the key to that growth is through the removal of all barriers.”
