US: Washington Post chairman says the media's future is online

At last week's Global Media Conference in New York Washington Post chairman Don Graham made the following comment in his keynote speech: "I have come to believe that we will be able to tell you about certain subjects better on the Internet than we will be able to in print."

Graham's speech focused on how the internet is changing the way his and other newspapers are run. He also said that "The Web site simply has to come through, ours and that of other newspapers, for us to be successful."

As a result of this speech Jay DeFoore of Editor and Publisher is optimistic that "newspaper executives are finally getting with the program when it comes to building sustainable online businesses."
