Having already sent a photojournalist to cover the world's war zones and hired financial writers as freelancers, Yahoo! has hired another multimedia inclined world traveler. Complete with audio, video and text, adventurer Richard Bangs now trots the globe on Yahoo's coin.
Presently, Bangs is in Thailand, getting to know the local tribes that survived last year's tsunami. He's already been to Switzerland following a mountain climber and is next off to Panama.
Newspapers need not worry about Yahoo's content. It certainly does not compare to investigative journalism and pushes the boundaries of sensationalism. In fact, on his Panama trip, Bangs will be accompanied by the winning family of a competition Yahoo is funding, not exactly a standard journalistic practice.
Still, the multimedia aspect of its projects is quite impressive. Young readers would certainly be more attracted to like packages instead of just text and black and white photos.
