John Bryant, formerly of the Daily Mail, has been hired by the Telegraph group to act as editor-in-chief responsible for the long term direction of its two papers, The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph.
Bryant replaces Kim Fletcher who had to resign in June because a conflict of interest arose when his wife Sarah Sands was promoted to editor at The Sunday Telegraph.
Chief Executive of the Telegraph group Murdoch MacLennon said the following about Bryant's future as editor-in-chief: "John has enormous experience as a very senior executive at both The Times and the Daily Mail. He will support the editors and help map out the way forward for both newspapers."
