US: free paper to expand to Baltimore
Copyrighted in over 60 American cities by billionaire Philip Anschutz, the free daily title Examiner, currently distributed in San Fransico and the Washington DC area, will soon be printed in Baltimore. Most copies of the new edition will be delivered to upper-middle class neighborhoods in order to entice advertisers, the same strategy used in the DC and San Fran markets. The Examiner is to print 250,000 copies, slightly more than the circulation of Baltimore's biggest conventional newspaper, the Baltimore Sun. Said newspaper analyst John Morton, "It's bound to have some negative impact on the Sun. We just don't know how much or if we'll be able to tell."
