Press freedom could have prevented Sudan crisis, prize winner says
Sudanese journalist Mahgoub Mohamed Salih, winner of the 2005 WAN Golden Pen Award, says that the Dafur crisis in western Sudan would have not developed to the current state if there had been press freedom in his country. "The Sudanese press was not allowed to publish the facts" although they were known at a very early stage, he said after receiving the award at the opening ceremony of the 58th World Newspaper Congress on Monday in Seoul. Salih added that the current political pressure to solve the crisis was due only to few brave journalist who published stories about the conflict in the Darfur province.
Although freedom of the press is necessary to guarantee peace and stability, Salih says that it needs to be complemented by high standard professional journalism which is committed to the truth. "We look to the whole world to contribute to capacity building in this regard", he said. egt

good paper, keep it up
Now that a team of respected journalists who have reorganised newspapers in Kenya have joined the Citizen,it will surely be a market leader
The News Paper is very nice keep it up!
Mahjoub is quite right. Journalists and the people of Darfur were so intimidated that they kept quiet. Because the victims kept quiet the government had no way of assessing when the volcano would erupt. And so the seemingly docile Darfur people surprised the government in February 2003.
There is need of poetry sections, like contests. to support upgrowing talented little poets in Tanzania and participate in making them recognizable
please the Editor of the citizen newspaper will you send me your contacts esp, e-mail address because I have something crucial to ask you.

COMPLAIN TO TANZANIA NATIONA PARK
Dear Editor,
We regret to inform the director of TANAPA that we are tourist from England traveling in Tanzania,
Unfortunately our Safari was a nightmare, compare to our Safaris in Kenya. The electronic paying system is not working according to what it was passive before.
Me and my friends Caroline Paul, Jennifer Laurence and Jimmy Corner we had to pay again the entry park fees to inter Tarangire National park and Serengeti. We have to stay for 5 hours to wait for the machine to work.
In Kenya we paid to local a tour operator and our Safari was marvelous- Cheers Kenya!! We have been traveling all over the world (Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Egypt, Thailand, USA, Brazil etc) there is no anywhere cash denied.
We are wondering what is Tanzania up in Promoting tourism, infarct the new system you are introducing is costly and time consuming for tourists. We are the only few group to experience the mess, but we are sure that lot of tourists have already experience the same problem.
Next time when introducing a new system please do a little research .for the same business in tourism. According to many driver guides, they say from November 1St 2007 the situation will be chaotic .
In our perceptions the scenario of tourism in Tanzania is going to cost the government and the many poor wananchi are going to suffer the conceseques of mismanagement of TANAPA.
Yours truly,
Caroline Paul, Jennifer Laurence and Jimmy Corner
