Incentive to produce quality news... online
Google has recently filed its latest patent for a logarithm that will list news sites in its searches according to the quality of their news instead of the most recent or relevant, reports NewScientist. Content from established and reputable organizations will soon be listed higher on the Google search list. In organizing this venture, Google is creating a constantly self-modifying database designed to compare the credibility of news organizations as well as the population of their staffs, its internet readership and the number of countries with access to its site. Since Google is the Internet search king and determines whose site gets visited and whose doesn't, newspapers may want to think twice about cutting journalists and skimping on quality in order to keep high profit margins and instead invest in their own value and online divisions.
