Dan Gillmor's Talk
"I still am a journalist, I will always be one," says Dan Gillmor in his keynote speech.
Dan highlights some citizen journalism sites: Korea's Ohmynews.com, Northwestvoice.com in Bakersfield,CA; Lasica and Canter's Ourmedia.com.
Gillmor talks persuasively about the journalistic values he hopes to bring to Bayosphere, his citizen-journalism endeavor for Silicon Valley, CA, and his conviction that blogging as a marketplace for ideas will help the best ideas and quality flourish.
He closes by reminding the group citizen journalists (aka bloggers) are not enemies of the press, but readers who have become writers and joined what is now a global conversation.

There were violent protests alright, but that wasn’t the end of it. What really humbled Denmark to apologize and cede to giving respect to Islam (although very reluctantly and in ambiguous terms) was the crippling economic embargo by the Muslim nations.
Denmark’s Danske Bank estimated Danish good worth 10 billion kroner ($1.6 billion) annually were threatened in 20 Muslim countries by the boycott.
Arla Foods, one of Europe’s largest dairy companies, was the worst hit, losing an estimated US$1.6 million each day of the boycott.
Muslims may represent the most dissonant community in the world but on this occasion they were a force to reckon with, and there’s no reason to believe they can make even Sweden regret its arrogant stance.
If Muslims repeat that strategy, self-censorship of galleries would be the least of worries for Mr. Nerikes for which he’s feigning so much concern right now.
Were you concern to publish that "infamous" picture?
Are we loosing sight of our liberties on behalf being politically correct?
Let us be naive and keep being insulted about our way of living...
Red Alert and stay home!
