US: article that first broke online wins Pulitzer Prize
For what appears to be the first time in history, a story that was first broken on the internet won a Pulitzer Prize, according to CyberJournalist.net. Nigel Jaquiss of a newspaper in Oregon, The Willamette Week, won the prize for investigative reporting for his work that exposed a sexual relationship between a governor and a 14 year old girl. Jaquiss and the Williamette Week deserve a congratulations for recognizing the value of the Web and for using it to break the story first. Since the Pulizter Prizes normally only allows online materials to be submitted as a Public Service entire, a version of the story that appeared in a print copy technically won the award. But since the article truly broke online first, this shows that Pulitzer Prizes should perhaps start rethinking its guidelines.
