Africa: safety seminars for journalists in conflict zones
Since January 2005 The International News Safety Institute (INSI) has conducted three safety training seminars in Bukavu and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Yamoussoukro in the Côte d'Ivoire for African journalists working in conflict zones. Along with Journaliste en danger (JED) and UNESCO, the INSI creates seminars that cover a plethora of safety issues, including personal safety, conflict management, dealing with hostile crowds, weapon identification and proper reactions to shootings and abductions. The INSI, a non-governmental organization established in 2003, plans to conduct more safety training seminars in Africa in the coming months.
