Basic journalism training open to all through wikis
New Media Musings reports that the USC Annenberg Online Journalism Review (OJR) has launched three tutorials intended to help grassroots journalists without formal training not trough the form of static lessons, but instead through the online technology known as wikis. The new feature will help beginning journalists, bloggers, and students report more accurately with specific tutorials on ethics, reporting, and writing. As wikis, any registered OJR user can add to or edit the turtorials. Each tutorial will also include a discussion area through which readers can submit questions for other OJR readers to answer. The OJR will present the tutorials under a Creative Commons license. By experimenting with wikis, along with publishing under the Creative Commons license, the OJR hopes to become a "test kitchen" for the online publishing industry and to continue illustrating and reporting many of the innovations challenging online journalists.
