Italy: New editor-in-chief for Il Sole 24 Ore
Netzeitung disclosed that Ferruccio de Bortoli, former editor-in-chief of Corriere della Sera, will be the new editor-in-chief of Il Sole 24 Ore. According to Neue Züricher Zeitung, de Bortoli had been favored by Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, CEO of Fiat, head of the association of employers and publisher of Il Sole 24 Ore. Experts analyze the choice of de Bortoli as an expression of discontent with the economic policies of Silvio Berlusconi's government. De Bortoli had stepped back from the position of editor-in-chief at Corriere della Sera after several arguments with the government.

Page 36 of last Sunday’s El País (2nd May 04) highlights this news. I note, with a little disappointment, that the NYT extra will be in Spanish-language only.
