Chatter Garden: New Hong Kong online community news site

Posted by Ulrike Trux on December 16, 2004 at 11:24 AM

Cyberjournalist reports of a new online community "for news and discussion about Hong Kong regional politics and public affairs called Chatter Garden recently launched, using Weblog publishing software. Visitors to the site can not only leave comments, but are encouraged to join discussing Hong Kong public affairs by posting blog entries. They also decide which entries go on the front page by voting on the best ones." The English language site was launched as a student project at the University of Hong Kong directed by assistant professor Andrew Lih and visiting lecturer Dan Gillmor. The announcement explained that Chatter Garden was named after "'Chater Garden', the park next to the government Legislative Council building, and a popular gathering place for local political rallies."

I am shocked to learn that Judy Hill, among others, was terminated. The only reason for reading the paper is the columnists. News is readily available on the Internet. If this trend continues there will be no reason to waste money on home delivery.
