The World Press Photo jury has selected a photo of an exhausted US soldier resting in a bunker, shot by British photographer Tim Hetherington, as photo of the year 2007.“This image shows the exhaustion of a man - and the exhaustion of a nation,” said jury chairman Gary Knight.
“There's a human quality to this picture. It says that conflict is the basis of this man's life,” said jury member MaryAnne Golon.
Hetherington took this picture for US magazine Vanity Fair, on an assignment in Afghanistan. The cash prize is €10,000.
