France: Figaro to open video studio

Posted by Jean Yves Chainon on November 5, 2007 at 4:41 PM
Le Figaro is furthering its steps in its multimedia path, as director Francis Morel just announced the upcoming opening of its own television studio, which will supply the website with video footage.

The studio is to be opened by the end of November. The Figaro is also discussing with TV stations about potential content-sharing agreements.

Morel went as far as to say that “for a website to exist, it must have video content.”

On the other hand, Morel reminded that “if there isn’t the print brand name, there’s nothing behind.”

Online operations amount to about 13% of the Figaro group’s total revenue, a much higher rate than for rival French newspaper groups.

More here about the Figaro’s multimedia strategy, and its choice to remain a non-integrated newsroom (although Morel suggested that the newsrooms would be integrated eventually).
