News aggregator to factor in user recommendations
Posted by Mica Swyers on July 13, 2007 at 12:42 PM
News aggregator Congoo has announced plans to factor user input into its selection of prominently displayed articles.
Previously, Congoo used software algorithms to place its news stories, pulled from about 25,000 sources, in over 500 predetermined categories. The change, however, will allow readers to recommend stories on the featured list, provided they come from a Congoo-approved source. Readers will also be able to rate a story and change its placement on the featured lists.
Unlike other user-recommendation sites, Congoo will rely on both users and algorithms to aggregate stories. It receives around 150,000 articles each day and seeks to provide users with a variety of media sources.
Congoo also has plans to add social-networking features for professionals. Users will be able to create profiles, upload photos and information, and link to those with similar news interests through the articles in predetermined categories.
