Report indicates media is playing detrimental role to Bolivia’s unity
A report by International Media Support states that the media is playing a detrimental role to Bolivia’s unity. Media outlets are providing “incomplete and distorted information”, tailoring news to their particular political interests. This problem is exacerbated by inadequate journalism training and a lack of a standard ethical framework.
The report stated that this “crisis in journalism is impeding Bolivians' understanding of strategic and sensitive topics in the development of their country”.
The report suggests ways in which the media can play a more positive role. Advocating for changes in the law, establishing “free speech” areas, increasing the quality of journalism through training and peer evaluation, and better protecting journalists were some of the suggestions made.
