US: The Digital Media Revolution Conference

Media’s melting pot of traditional and modern methods was the topic of discussion at the recent "The Digital Media Revolution" hosted by the news magazine The Week and The Conference Board. The panel discussion covered a range of topics all relating to the fast paced changes to the traditional media market.
Blaming old media outlets on not being fast enough to keep up with the times led to chats about advertising budgets and how much money goes into vs. should go into internet advertising. More traditional companies still haven’t embraced Internet advertising even though that’s where a large part of the target audience gets their information.

Everyone also talked about the decline of print publications, specifically newspapers, because the growing speed at which the world acquires its news.  But surprisingly panelists believe noticed that magazines don’t seem to be effected by the same downward print publication trend.

Magazines seem to have turned themselves more into a brand than a publication. Companies seem to have stretched beyond simple publications to other media outlets including radio, products, Internet, and in some cases even cell phones.

There is no evidence that traditional media is going to be wiped out. Semi-traditional sources such as television are still the best way to reach largest market. The conference concluded that companies will benefit most from changing with the times instead of resisting them.
