Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised tough action after a newspaper - Bild Zeitung on Wednesday 25 October 2006 - printed pictures that appear to show German soldiers in Afghanistan posing with a skull. Government spokesman Thomas Steg said the chancellor has made it clear that she finds the pictures shocking and disgusting.

Bild's front page screamed: "Shock Photos of German Soldiers" and inside "German Soldiers Desecrate a Dead Person." As yet, Bild is the only confirmed source for the allegations.the paper wrote.bild zeitung - 25 October 2006

The Bild paper wrote that a member of the German Armed Forces claimed that the pictures, one of which was splashed across Wednesday's front page, showed German peacekeepers of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) unit near the capital Kabul in early 2003.

Germany's Defence Ministry said two non-commissioned officers are being questioned over the photos, which are believed to have been taken near Kabul in 2003. The photos were printed on the front page of the mass-circulation Bild newspaper on Wednesday. German Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said that such behaviour by German soldiers would not be tolerated in any way.

According to a report in the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, the two suspects belonged to the same mountain troops unit from the southern German state of Bavaria.

The state prosecuter's office in Potsdam, outside Berlin, confirmed that it had launched a criminal investigation into the affair on charges of "disturbing the peace of the dead."

For those who wish to see the raw footage from 30 september 2000 at Netzarim Junction, please come to our site.

this story is far from dead, and soon people will be able to form their own opinion by seeing the evidence themselves.
as for Raphael's comment: would that the Palestinians felt that it didn't matter who killed the lad.
