Jordanian paper publishes Mohammed cartoons

Posted by Dominique Lewis Tuohy on February 2, 2006 at 4:11 PM

The Jordanian tabloid Al-Shihan has reprinted three of the infamous 12 caricatures of Mohammed originally published by Danish paper Jyllands Posten. In an editorial printed alongside the cartoons, editor in chief Jihad Momani wrote: "Muslims of the world, be reasonable."

Momani told AFP that he chose to print the cartoons "so people know what they are protesting about ... People are attacking drawings that they have not even seen."

I wish Editor-in-Chief Momani of the Jordanian newspaper Al-Shihan, the very best. The decision to reprint these cartoons & to ask Muslims internationally to be reasonable, is a gutsy one.
Often, extremely disagreeable depictions of westerners or the west, are portrayed in Muslim media & spread throughout the Muslim world, with little or no adverse reaction from the west.
The events of the past few weeks are demonstrating to the peoples of the world that much of Islam may be simply, out of control. Its no way to make friends. It will be used against Muslims in general.
All the reactions do is give credibility to those who espouse that Islamic nations & their leaders, cannot be trusted. It also portrays Islam as a religion many will want nothing to do with & will fight against.
If there is no reaction to the Jordanian publication, then people in the west will only see a double-standard & find that as objectionable as the violent reactions against Demark & the Danish publisher.

LISTEN..... STOP WAR, please listen (and I mean LISTEN!!!) to your heart, to be reasonable is not hard at all. PEACE.

Dear readers of the newspaper,

I am an elderly woman living in Denmark, which was until recently a very peaceful place.

At the moment I am deeply shocked because of all the hatred against my small country.

I think it is extremely unfair to make all Danes responsible for some stupid and idiotic cartoons in a newspaper.

Danes have never blamed all Muslims for the terror on nine eleven - of course not, because the terror-act was only committed by a limited number of Muslims. And it is exactly the same in this matter. The cartoons were made by less than 0.0003 % of the Danish population, so it is unfair to blame a whole population for the stupid and offensive provocation of a newspaper.

Danes are not mean, but quite and peace-loving people, which can be verified by many Muslims living in Denmark.
As some of my students (all Muslims) say:"We all come from Adam. Actually Muslims and Christians are brothers and sisters, so why don't we talk peacefully with each other!"

In the hope of a better and more peaceful world
yours sincerely

The rioting, killing, and destruction seen as a result of the publishing of a few cartoons gives point to the extreme nature of the reactions of some members of the Muslim faith. This reaction is, in its own way, a new form of terrorism...don't do anything that we find offensive, or we will destroy you and/or your property.
