Associated Press angered over misuse of photo
The Associated Press is protesting the 'misleading inclusion' of one of its photographs in a pamphlet showing images offensive to Islam. The picture (see above) was taken at a small French village fair during a pig squealing contest. A black and white image of the same picture (you can see it here) was circulated throughout the Middle East by a group of Danish Muslim leaders in a brochure aimed at creating awareness of anti-Muslim images from Europe.
The photo was sent out by the Associated Press (AP) in August 2005. The organisation has asserted that the photo was used "completely out of context and without permission." Furthermore, "AP is attempting to contact the distributors of this unrelated photo to protest its misrepresentation and demand that they stop immediately."
Ahmed Akkari, spokesman for the Danish group that circulated the pamphlet in question asserted that he was unaware of the origin of the photo and had received it anonymously.
