US: newspapers brace for latest circulation figures

The latest Audit Bureau of Circulation statistics for American newspapers, to be released today, are expected to echo May's 1.9% decline. Several publishers have already reported their numbers, most declaring more than a 2% loss. The New York Times reported a 0.4% increase in its daily circulation, the only positive number from a major paper.

One notable statistic is that of McClatchy has reported its circulation has dropped 1%, the first time the publisher has experienced a decline in 20 years.
