French publisher to print English version of children's dailies in the United States

Posted by Andrea Steinberg on April 6, 2005 at 6:31 PM

Le Monde reports that English adaptations of the dailies geared towards children published by a small French publisher, Play-Bac Presse, will make their first appearance in the United States thanks to the publisher’s partnership with The Miami Herald. The adaptations of the French Quoti, Le Petit Quotidien, and Mon Quotidien will be called Daily 7, Daily 10, and Daily 13, each geared towards a specific age group to children between the ages of 5 and 13 years old. The children's dailies will be distribued to 15,000 supscribers and to 25,000 students in the Miami area free of charge. François Dufour, founder of Play-Bac Presse, explained that the company has been searching for a partnership within the US for seven years. Through the partnership, Play-Bac Presse will become a part of the important media group within the US, Knight Ridder. Advantages to The Miami Herald include attracting readers to the written press at a young age, and facilitating parents’ ability to encourage their children to read. To provide the three children’s dailies to The Miami Herald, Play-Bac Presse hired a small English speaking staff to be based in Paris, and placed one journalist correspondent in Miami and one in Hollywood.
