U.K. newspapers to offer music downloads

From Digital Media News for Europe: The Guardian, through a partnership with EMI, is set to become the first U.K. newspaper to offer downloading of songs for 99 pence each to its online readers. The system is modeled on iTunes, Apple's pay-by-the-song, legal music downloading platform. "Simon Waldman, director of digital publishing at Guardian Newspapers, told New Media Zero that the service was on a trial basis only for now: 'Our audience is bang in line for downloading and digitising music,' he said. 'But in a market this new it's still not quite clear how a publisher can make this work profitably.'"
